Tamilian fish kozhumbhu

Tamilian fish kozhumbhu
This is another fish kozhumbhu recipe that i love a lot. The recipe has been adapted from chef Damodaran's recipe! But nowadays if you watch his cookery shows, you will find that almost all the recipes will be the same, ingredient wise & method wise! This is one of the few good recipes found in one of his earlier cookbook! Another recipe which was in my draft from 6/10/06.
Ingredients:
Fish fillets- 400 gms , pearl onions- 9, sliced, tomato- 1, big, chopped, garlic- 5, crushed to a coarse paste, coriander pwd - 1 1/2 tbsp, chilli pwd- 1 tsp, turmeric pwd- 1/4 tsp, coriander leaves- a handful, chopped, salt to taste, tamarind paste- 4 tbsp(adjust according to taste), green chilli- 2, slit, coconut milk- 1/2 cup.
Dry roast & grind to a smooth pwd:
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp, peppercorns- 1 tsp.
For seasoning:
Oil- 3 tbsp, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds & cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp each, curry leaves- 8.
Method:
Heat oil in a pan & season with mustard, cumin, fenugreek & curry leaves. Then add the chopped onions & fry till onions are golden. Now add the chopped tomatoes, coriander leaves, chillipwd, turmeric pwd , coriander pwd, cumin & peppercorn pwd & stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add the tamarind paste , coconut milk, salt to taste & 1 cup of water & bring to boil. once the kozhombhu starts boiling , add the fish fillets & cover pan & simmer on medium heat for 15 to 17 mins till the fish pieces are cooked & the kozhumbhu has also reached the desired consistency. Serve hot with basmati rice &mutton pepper fry or red hot chicken masala!
